Detailing and Furnishing a New Addition

The media room featured is part of a 1,000 sq. ft addition to this 50's ranch home. Also included were a half bath done in Venetian plaster and a luxury laundry room (with country sink, maple glazed cream cabinetry, wainscoting and custom crown molding). The planning and development of this interior space as well as the exterior design was executed by Marya Taylor Interiors. When viewed from the street, the room and garage additions appear seamless to the original Country French Architecture and, from the inside, visitors are unaware that a recent, major expansion has been accomplished. This is a hallmark of great architecture and interior design. The Media Room features built-in maple cabinetry, custom designed by Marya Taylor. It beautifully integrates the TV into the entertainment wall including a functioning fireplace and a lighted display cabinet, perfect for the customer's art glass collection. The customer wanted a slightly more contemporary feel to the room with plenty of seating. This is achieved with the placement of a large leather sectional. Note that the back height of this piece was kept low as to not interfere with the beautiful outdoor views. Other functional aspects are built-in surround sound and ceiling eyeball lights.

The lamps were specified with leather opaque shades so as to not interfere with theatre viewing. The draperies and roman shades are black-out lined as well. Although the interior furnishings are transitional, the color way unites this new addition to the more stately traditional furnishings seen in the original sections of the home. The 12 foot ceilings as well as 19' X 22' room size make it a perfect space for entertaining. This room demonstrates how form should follow function!
